Police activity in New Orleans East closes I-10 at Bullard exit and puts nearby Bishop McManus Academy on lockdown.
The NOPD investigates a report of an officer in need of assistance near Bullard Avenue and Barrington Drive.
Initial reports show that around 10 a.m. a carjacking occurred near Leon C. Simon Drive and Founders Road.
An Orleans Levee District police officer responded, and found subjects in the reported stolen vehicle at the intersection of Bullard Avenue and Barrington Drive.
That is when, police say, at least one person in the vehicle fired at the officer. No injuries have been reported at this time.
DOTD reports the I-10 at Bullard exit ramp is closed.
The exit ramp from I-10 East to Bullard Avenue is closed due to an accident. Congestion from this incident is minimal.

The public is asked to avoid this area until the investigation is complete.
