Officials break ground on airport access flyover ramps

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards and the Department of Transportation and Development today turned some dirt to kick off the construction of new on- and off-ramps that will take motorists from I-10 to the new terminal at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

The new interchange will improve regional traffic flow and will provide direct access between I-10 and #TheNewMSY airport terminal. This project is vitally important to support the future growth of the city of Kenner and the region.

The airport, set to open in a matter of weeks, sits across the runway from the current terminal, so the old access road will not take passengers there. The new terminal will have to be accessed via Loyola Drive in Kenner until the new flyover ramps are open, sometime in 2021.

The ramps will allow drivers to take I-10 to the new terminal without having to negotiate the lights at the Loyola Drive exit, and at Loyola and Veterans Boulevard.
