Look for a mix of sun and clouds today and a high of 74. Tomorrow, things take a stormy turn.
"We will have one more pleasant day today before some big changes come to our weather," WWL-TV Meteorologist Dave Nussbaumexplained. "Tonight will become cloudy with a slight chance for a shower or storm toward daybreak."
He says tomorrow an upper-level wave will move across the area.
"This will tap into the warm and more humid air over us from the southeasterly winds. It will set off scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. Some of them could be strong to severe."
Nussbaum says the Storm Prediction Center has placed all of Southeast Louisiana in a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather.
"The storms could produce damaging winds, hail and a few tornadoes. We could also pick up a few inches of rain and that may lead to some street flooding."
He forecast the upper-level wave will be east of us on Friday.
"We stay warm and humid. Through daytime heating we will have scattered showers and storms again. A few storms could produce some hail and heavy rain. Highs will be in the lower 80s."
- Weekend Forecast: Saturday will be the driest day of the weekend. We will be warm and humid with isolated showers or storms. Highs will be in the lower to mid 80s. Another upper-level wave will move through on Sunday. This one could be stronger than the Thursday one. I'm expecting another round of showers and thunderstorms. Some could be strong to severe again and heavy rain is also likely. An additional 1-2"+ will be possible. Fortunately, it has been dry here lately, so I'm not expecting any major flooding, just street flooding. High temps. will be around 80. A cold front will move through on Monday and that will finally clear out the storms.
