His father is the great Saints quarterback, his football career wasn’t too shabby either. On Saturday people of the region got a glimpse of the former NFL quarterbacks great heart when he donated 1,000 meals to the healthcare workers of the Ochsner Hospital System, Tulane, and East Jefferson General Hospitals.
The meals were prepared by the volunteers and employees at Drago’s Seafood Restaurant in Metairie on Saturday.
"We already did about 600 meals to a couple of different locations ...and a couple of different hospitals,” Drago's Tommy Cvitanovich told WWL-TV. “He went to Tulane and East Jefferson. Now, he is taking care of Ochsner."
Cvitanovich praised the workers of the health systems involved in the fight against this coronavirus: “These people are going to a building that has a deadly virus. There's no difference in that and a burning building as far as I am concerned. We just really appreciate what they are doing."
Volunteer Abbi Miller was helping out with the preparation, but the thought of family and friends afflicted with COVID-19 was at the top of her mind as several of her family members work at intensive care centers. “This morning, we were packing up about a thousand meals to deliver to different hospitals around the city,” she told the television station.
Cvitanovich likened Mannings great comebacks on the gridiron to his effort donating meals:
"He is famous for his quarter comebacks. I'd like to think, right now, we are in the fourth quarter of this pandemic, and Peyton Manning is coming through for another win."
Other New Orleans sports greats are also joining in to help out those on the frontlines of treating COVID-19. This includes Drew Brees, Cam Jordan, Demario Davis and Deonte Harris.
