The Pro Bowl running back is currently looking for a new contract as he enters the final year of his rookie deal and Payton said the team is working on a deal with Kamara.
“We’re actively negotiating a contract with he and his agent and we’ll keep you posted if there’s any progress,” Payton said.
Kamara had missed the Saints previous practices and reports followed that those absences were related to his contract status.
Further reports stated that the Saints were open to trading the former Tennessee standout who’s been one of the NFL’s most productive running backs since entering the NFL as a third-round pick of the Saints in 2017.
Since his rookie season Kamara has scored the third most touchdowns of any running back (38) and the second most all-purpose yards at his position (5061).
