First responders are not immune to coronavirus, and the very nature of the job tends to bring them in harm's way.

Several New Orleans Police officers and New Orleans firefighters have tested positive for the disease, and while they isolate themselves, others that have been exposed are being asked to self quarantine.

The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reports the NOPD says it has "not compromised the operation of any unit in the department."

Five officers so far have tested positive and 48 are in self-quarantine.

Meanwhile, 54 firefighters have either tested positive or are self-quarantined due to exposure to someone who is positive, according to New Orleans Fire Fighters Association President Aaron Mischler. Mischler himself says he has contracted the disease.
