Southeast Louisiana faces a threat of severe weather Thursday.
"The Storm Prediction Center has placed our entire area – both north and south of the lake – at an ‘enhanced’ risk of severe weather Thursday," WWL-TV Meteorologist Alexandra Cranford said.
She says most of the area will start to see the weather start heading downhill after 11:00am.
"The severe elements we’ll be watching for are damaging wind gusts, tornadoes (possibly up to EF2 strength) and hail (possibly up to 2” diameter)."
Here is a look at the anticipated timing:
Here is a tentative timeline for Thursday's storms. We will be at an 'enhanced' risk of severe weather, which is higher than we commonly see in our area. @WWLTV pic.twitter.com/Q28TYyS5fb
— Alexandra Cranford WWL-TV (@alexandracranfo) April 17, 2019- 11 am – 2 pm: A few isolated storms could form ahead of the main system. There may not be a lot of these early cells, but any that form will have the potential to turn strong to severe.
- 2 pm – 8 pm: The bulk of the strong storms will happen in this time frame. Much of it may come as a line of strong thunderstorms progressing across the area from west to east especially around 4-6 p.m.
- 8 pm – 11 pm: The severe threat will be lower, and the rain will gradually come to an end from west to east.
Cranford expects rain amounts will be 1-3 inches, so some brief street flooding will be possible in spots, especially north of the lake where 2-3+ inches are expected.
All of the bad weather is expected to be over by midnight.
Good Friday will be windy with decreasing clouds and maybe a stray shower or two wrapping behind the low pressure. Beautiful weather follows for Saturday and Easter Sunday with temps starting in the 50s and climbing into the 70s.
