Greater New Orleans could see significant rainfall through Friday with a tropical depression moving through the Gulf of Mexico.
WWL TV Chief Meteorologist Chris Franklin says the system is expected to getting better organized and stronger soon.
"We are still anticipating either a ... tropical storm in the next few days before a landfall in SE TX Friday or Saturday," he explained.
Whether it intensifies or not, however, he says the effects for Southeast Louisiana are pretty much the same.
"Regardless of development, rainfall is still the main impact to us," Franklin said.
He forecasts the region could see two to four inches or more along the coast through Friday and into the weekend with one to three inches around the metro area.
He is not concerned about the New Orleans area taking a direct hit.
"Models are in good agreement with the trek the wave or storm will take, although intensity is always a question."
