Sanitation workers say they were fired for voicing their concerns about working conditions, pay increases, and lack of COVID-19 protection.

As WWL-TV reports, sanitation workers with Metro Disposal say they were fired earlier this week for demanding the disposal company provide proper PPE equipment on a daily basis, a pay increase to $15 per hour, and hazard pay for working during the pandemic.

On Friday, the former workers delivered fliers of their concerns to residents in Lakeview which Metro Disposal collects trash from properties there and across Orleans Parish. Metro Disposal did not comment on the matter.

One sanitation worker told WWL-TV that he and the other workers want to return to their routes, but they want what, they say, they are owed by the company.
