Stern reaction today from House Republican Whip Steve Scalise after the White House released the transcript of a call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine's president.

"I read the transcript," the Metairie Republican told WWL First News, "When you read the transcript, there were absolutely no crimes committed."

He lashed out at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who opened impeachment proceedings amid allegations raised by a whistle blower claim of what happened during the call.

"If you look at the wild and baseless allegations that Speaker Pelosi made... she said there were crimes committed," Scalise insisted. "There were no 'high crimes and misdemeanors.' There were no crimes at all."

The GOP whip called on the speaker to say she is sorry.

"I think frankly, Speaker Pelosi owes the American people an apology.  She needs to end this without."

Scalise issued the following statement:

“It’s now clear that Democrats launched a formal impeachment inquiry on the basis of rumors, rumors that turned out to be false. After reviewing the transcript of the call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky, it is clear that there was absolutely no quid pro quo, and no laws broken on the call. Speaker Pelosi, who pledged that the President broke the law, owes the American people an apology for her calls to begin impeachment proceedings when there is no basis for that reckless decision.”
