Some uptown residents woke up this Friday morning to the sight of their vehicle windows smashed and burglarized. This happened sometime before 6 a.m. on Louisiana Avenue between Magazine Street and Tchoupitoulas Street.
New Orleans police officers were on the scene, investigating at least seven vehicles broken into. Some burglarized vehicles were parked along Louisiana Avenue while others were parked in a private off-street parking lot in front of an apartment complex.
“My neighbor knocked on my door to wake me up right around six o'clock in the morning and we came out and police were already out here taking down reports,” said one victim who had her vehicle broken into and a personal bag stolen.
When asked if he thinks cameras work to stop vehicle break-ins he says, “They are proven to deter it from what I’ve read. I understand that they can help either find cars or help identify individuals.”
