Shootout between suspects and police leaves one wounded, one at large

Cops shot a suspect today in New Orleans Holy Cross neighborhood.

"The NOPD is investigating an officer-involved shooting," Public Information Officer Gary Scheets said in an email. "At 5:28 p.m. Fifth District officers responded to a call for service in the 1000 block of Deslonde Street."


He says when police got to the scene three suspects came running out a house.

"Officers were confronted by three subjects as they exited a residence they were allegedly burglarizing."

Scheets says both the suspects and cops shot at each other.

"During an exchange of gunfire one of the perpetrators was struck and wounded."

He and a second suspect were take into custody.

"A third suspect is currently at large. He was last seen wearing a ski mask and a black hooded sweatshirt."

Police describe the wounded suspects injuries as "non-life threatening."

A cop was hurt, but not by a bullet.

"One officer was also transported to a local hospital suffering from a hand injury."

Scheets says the incident is under investigation.

"The NOPD Force Investigation Team (FIT) is investigating the incident."
