Developer and reality TV figure Sidney Torres, along with businessman Fouad El-Jaouhari, has bought the iconic Circle Food Store at St. Bernard Ave. and North Claiborne, The New Orleans Advocate reports.

The business went up for auction auction after the previous owners defaulted on loans of more than $8 million.

According to The Advocate, Torres had tried to negotiate a sale from the debtholder, but eventually ended up settling it at the sheriff's auction Thursday.
Torres says he wants to keep the location running as a food store, possibly as a "food hall" similar to the St. Roch Market. The Advocate reports he first wants to discuss drainage in the area with New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell's administration.
