Residents of St. Charles Parish can now get on a list to prevent publishers or advertisers throwing newspapers in their yards.
The new law is now in effect.
"Members of the St. Charles Parish Council passed a no toss ordinance," according to a news release. "The ordinance... gave residents the ability to request printed material not to be tossed on personal property."
Under the law residents can go to stcharlesparish-la.gov/notossordinance and opt out.
“Unsolicited newspapers have become a nuisance in our parish. Quite often residents have complained of the unwanted newspapers piling up in the driveways of elderly or even ending up in storm drains,” Councilwoman Julia Fisher-Perrier said. “I’m excited that we’ve been able to provide a solution."
