St. Tammany Parish prepares for Hurricane Marco

St. Tammany parish prepares for Hurricane Marco’s arrival. Parish President Mike Cooper announced Sunday that he signed an Emergency Declaration for the Northshore parish. The declaration will provide provisions to parish residence before and after the storm makes landfall.

As of Sunday, St. Tammany Parish is under a Tropical Storm Warning. Hurricane Marco is expected to impact St. Tammany on Monday.

“We ask that you use today, which should be good weather most of the day to fulfil your emergency supplies and that you are fully stocked with particularly; food, water, ice. Also be prepared for the provisions of COVID that we have been promoting all along; masks gloves, and sanitizer,” said St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper in a press conference Sunday.

The parish Department of Works has opened six self-serve sandbagging locations.

Here is a list of those self-serve sandbagging locations:
  • St. Tammany Parish Government Building, 21410 Koop Drive, Mandeville
  • St. Tammany Parish Public Works Airport Road Barn, 34583 Grantham College Road ,Slidell
  • The Old Levee District Site, 61134 Military Road, Slidell
  • St. Tammany Parish Public Works Fritchie Barn, 63119 Highway 1090, Pearl River
  • St. Tammany Parish Public Works Keller Barn, 63131 Fish Hatchery Road, Lacombe
  • St. Tammany Parish Public Works Covington Barn, 1305 N. Florida St. Covington

Sandbags will be distributed by the Department of Works on Monday form 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. at these locations:

  • Airport Barn
  • Covington Barn
  • Fritchie Barn
  • Keller Barn
  • Koop Drive Complex

The Old Levee District site will be self-serve on Monday. Residents are asked to bring their own shovel.
