Attorney General Jeff Landry is pushing for Governor John Bel Edwards to approve the reopening of barbershops and hair salons.  Landry says it is a step in the right direction of getting the economy running. He also says haircuts are a matter of personal hygiene and mental well-being.

“There are a lot of people out there that have been self-isolating for 30 or 40 days and they want to be able to cut their hair,” said Landry.

Landry is calling on the move to be made as soon as possible and says the reopening would be a part of the restoration of people’s liberty.

“People should have a right to be able to assess the risk and make personal choices," Landry said. One of the ways we can do this is by allowing salons to open back up.”

Landry encourages the governor to issue guidance for the reopening and says mitigation techniques can implemented into the haircut process.

“Keeping people apart, staggering the scheduling of appointments or taking less people on a given day, making sure that there is sanitizer allowed for them and if people want to wear masks, that should be optional,” said Landry.
