Saturday is shaping up to be a pretty decent day, but storms are headed into the area late tonight.
"Expect a warm, muggy, and windy day Saturday, with highs in the low 80s," says local weather expert, WWL-TV meteorologist Chris Franklin. The timing of the nasty weather looks favorable for the French Quarter Festival, however.
Strong storms will move into the area late Saturday, and should be out of the metro area by dawn Sunday.
"The greatest risk of severe weather is in northern and central Louisiana, and the Florida parishes, as well as parts of central and southwest Mississippi," says Franklin. "The Northshore is seeing an enhanced risk level for tonight as storms move through. Strong tornadoes are a possibility to our north, with a greater risk of severe weather, isolated tornadoes and strong damaging winds for us."
"Timing still looks to be the same, late night, and long over before daybreak Sunday," says Franklin.
After the storms, a cold front is next, likely to move in by daybreak Sunday.
"Temps in the afternoon will remain in the 60s with less humid air. Also more sunshine during the day tomorrow. The 'good feel' air will last through Tuesday before a return flow from the Gulf increases humidity by Wednesday and another chance for storms Thursday into Friday morning with another cold front."
