St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith has announced that, as of 9 a.m. Friday Oct. 11, the employment of Gregory Longino, a 29-year veteran of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office was terminated.
Deputy Chief Longino was stopped by Causeway Police on the bridge Thursday morning and was suspected of driving under the influence.
"Our officers identified a vehicle going over 100 miles an hour on the north-bound bridge," said Causeway General Manager Carlton Dufrechou.
Longino was not on duty at the time and was driving his personal vehicle. He was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
Longino was immediately placed on administrative leave. Friday morning he was fired.
