The City of New Orleans issued a Street Flood Advisory early Saturday afternoon.

There had been reports of street flooding in New Orleans, mostly in the CBD and French Quarter areas.


Parking restrictions were temporarily lifted in the city but reinstated about 1 p.m.

A strong thunderstorm developed right over the metro area early Saturday afternoon and dumped torrential rainfall for a short time. Radar estimated a possible 4 inches of rainfall per hour with the storm, causing localized flooding. 

The National Weather Service reported 1.88 inches of rain fell in 30 minutes at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Residents were allowed to move vehicles to neutral grounds and sidewalks for a brief time.

Jefferson Parish and Plaquemines Parish also warned of possible localized flooding.
