The rain is mostly gone, but frigid air has blow in.
"Much colder temperatures have returned to the region and it will stay chilly for the first part of this week," WWL-TV Meteorologist Dave Nussbaum said. "Today will be partly cloudy, breezy and chilly with highs only in the lower 50s."
He says after morning wind chills in the 20s on the Northshore and 30s south of the lake, the wind will make it feel like the 40s all day.
"This evening will be mostly cloudy and cold with a just a few sprinkles possible late as an upper-level wave moves through. Temperatures will be in the 40s and it will feel like the 30s during parade time."
Look for similar conditions for Fat Tuesday. Nussbaum says things will start pretty cold on Mardi Gras morning.
"Lows will be in the mid to upper 30s. The wind chill will be in the 20s!"
As the morning parades roll, we warm up just a little.
"It will feel like the 20s! During the day high pressure will build over us. We will be mostly sunny, breezy and chilly with highs in the lower 50s, but it will feel like the 40s."
Those partying into the Mardi Gras night will find it getting even colder.
"Tuesday Night will be clear and cold with a light freeze north of the lake. Lows north will be around the upper 20s to 30° and south will be in the upper 30s. Again, the wind will make it feel like the 20s."
After the party ends, we do get a bit warmer as part of a warming trend.
"Ash Wednesday will be sunny and chilly with highs in the mid 50s. The area of high pressure moves east of us on Thursday and Friday. We will start to warm up as southerly winds return. Thursday will be mostly sunny with highs in the mid 60s. Friday will be partly cloudy with highs in the mid 70s. "
