The New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board says the closure of a huge water leak Uptown is "near complete," after a 114-year-old water main broke, sending water rushing over South Claiborne Ave. near Napoleon.

The drop in water pressure led to a precautionary boil advisory for a large section of Uptown, from Napoleon Ave. to S. Carrollton Ave., and from S. Claiborne Ave. the the river.

UPDATE: The leak closure is near complete. Pressures are up & stable. Crews pumped down the excavation & are beginning repairs. Water testing is underway. The Uptown precautionary boil water advisory is still active. Test results take approx 24 hours. https://t.co/IFP77d1A7b pic.twitter.com/Rom2ZvwfIc
