Single women are now buying up property at twice the rate of single men, according to the National Association of Realtors.
27 percent of owner-occupied homes in the New Orleans metro area were owned by single women. That's the highest percentage in the country, according to Lending Tree data. Tammy Whitehead, Realtor with Latter & Blum says she definitely likes what she's seeing.
"I think we are all seeing an increase in single women buying homes and I think it's amazing," Whitehead said. "I think women, probably more than men want a place that they can call home."
Whitehead believes that many times a lot of single women are waiting until a little later in life to get married, or maybe coming out of a relationship and they want a house they can call their own.
"And they're buying instead of renting, just because you would pay more in rent than you would on a house note," Whitehead explained.
Still, single women home buyers are 2nd to married couples who remain the driving force. In other words, two incomes are better than one.
