The Times-Picayune clock tower, a local landmark that has sat next to the Pontchartrain Expressway for more than five decades, will soon be a thing of the past. The new owners of the property say that it will be coming down sometime in the next couple of weeks.  There will be no announcement and no fanfare, it’s just going to be demolished.

The clock tower has been part of the city scape for 51 years, and its destruction will leave a hole in the view of thousands of motorists travelling the Pontchartrain Expressway every day.

A new state-of-the-art golfing facility will begin construction as soon as the demolition is completed, with an anticipated opening date of late 2020.

Developers tried to save the iconic landmark, but said it is just not in the right place for preservation.  Where it stands now would be right in the middle of the driving range.

The tower and clock are both made of concrete, so when it falls over, it will crumble.

So, along with D.H.Holmes, the Rivergate, K&B and lots of other nostalgic local favorites, soon we will be saying that the Times-Picayune clock “ain't dere no more.”
