The National Hurricane Center expects Tropical Storm Dorian to move into the Caribbean tomorrow.
"On the forecast track, the center of Dorian is expected to move near or over the Windward Islands tonight and move into the eastern Caribbean Sea on Tuesday," federal forecasters said. "Dorian is forecastto pass near or south of Puerto Rico on Wednesday."
The Hurricane Center calls for Dorian to become a hurricane.
"Dorian is expected to be a hurricane when it moves near Puerto Rico and eastern Hispaniola."
WWL TV Meteorologist Alexandra Cranford says most models keep Dorian out of the Gulf of Mexico.
"The storm could pose a threat to Florida's east coast this weekend," she explained. "Right now, the models do not show it threatening our area. A few models bring it into the northeast Gulf over a week from now, but it may be a much weakened system by then."
She stresses that it is still a long way out.
"We will track it closely."
