Tropical Storm Dorian could make it to the Florida Panhandle

Forecasters are watching Tropical Storm Dorian move across the Caribbean Sea on a path that could bring it to Florida this weekend.

"Right now, the models do not show it threatening our area," he explained. "A few models bring it into the northeast Gulf over a week from now, but it may be a much weakened system by then."

He stressed that it is still a long way out, and the eventual forecast won't be clear until around Friday.

The Hurricane Center says, "Dorian is forecast to be near hurricane strength when it moves close to Puerto Rico and eastern Hispaniola."

Nussbaum says how much it weakens before moving toward Florida will depend how much of the mountainous terrain it battles over Hispaniola and how much dry air it encounters.
