President Donald Trump today signed the measure awarding former New Orleans Saints player Steve Gleason the Congressional Gold Medal. The honor is being bestowed on Gleason for his advocacy for ALS patients.
Gleason, confined to a wheelchair since being diagnosed with the crippling disease in 2011, has fought for legislation to help ALS sufferers gain access to technology that can assist them in leading more normal lives.
President Trump just signed into law my legislation to award Steve Gleason with the #CongressionalGoldMedal. Now we will work with @TeamGleason & @usmint to design the medal and schedule the ceremony to #HonorGleason for later this year. Can't wait! https://t.co/y9K8QzkOP2 #ALS
