UPDATE: A third person died today from coronavirus in Louisiana. The governor said late this afternoon that a Jefferson Parish resident had died. Earlier he said two New Orleans residents from Lambeth House died today. That means there are now seven Louisiana deaths. The first six were all Orleans Parish residents.
Original story: Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards says the number of deaths and cases of COVID-19 in the state keep climbing.
“We now have 257 cases in Louisiana,” he announced. “I am sad to report that we also have two more deaths this morning.”
Edwards says both deaths were at an Orleans Parish retirement center.
“Both at the Lambeth House in New Orleans... a 98-year-old individual and a 92-year-old individual, and that brings the number of deaths at Lambeth House to four.”
These numbers are an increase of 60 cases today and two additional deaths today.
Edwards issued what he called his more urgent plea for people to follow recommendations to avoid contact with other people... or in two weeks, he said, the US will look like what is happening in Italy. There, the health care system in overwhelmed and the measures to control the spread are more drastic.
