TX grand jury indicts St. John firefighter in marijuana bust

A St. John the Baptist Parish firefighter is indicted on charges of smuggling 130 pounds of marijuana across the Mexico-Texas border.

A grand jury in Corpus Christi, Texas handed up the indictment against Michael Moscona on July 14th.

Moscona faces a possession with intent to distribute charge when he was caught with 59 kilograms of marijuana at a checkpoint near McAllen Texas on June 17th.

Moscona told authorities he was vacationing with family in South Padre Island and was returning to St. John in a rental truck.

According to The Times Picayune | The New Orleans Advocate, an attorney for Moscona said yesterday they intend to plead not guilty. He is out on a $75,000 bond.

If convicted Moscona could face a maximum of 20 years in prison.
