A driver flew off the Causeway early this morning and ended up in the lake.
"They got a car or truck that went over the side," a caller to WWL Radio described. "Part of the rail is missing, There's two people in the water. Bystanders have thrown them a life ring."
Authorities shut down traffic from the Northshore to the Southshore.
"We got a truck overboard," Causeway General Manager Carlton Dufrechou told WWL First News around 6:20am. "We got one (person) out. Southbound Causeway is closed."
This comes as officials are finalizing plans to raise the guard rails to try and prevent what they call "overboard" crashes in the future.
