Officials at Dixon Correctional Center confirm the death of Vince Marinello.

The 82-year-old former New Orleans broadcaster was serving a life sentence for murdering his wife.

Officials say Marinello had been receiving medical treatment in prison, but authorities could not immediately say the cause of death or why he was being treated.

He was pronounced dead February 21st, 2020 at 7:00pm.

The long-time broadcaster was convicted in 2008 of gunning down Mary Elizabeth Marinello in 2006 in Jefferson Parish.

At the trial prosecutors told jurors how he purchased a disguise, armed himself, approached his estranged wife in a Metairie parking lot and shot her twice in the face.

He then drove to Mississippi and claimed he was out of town at the time of the murder.

Prosecutors produced cell phone records to show Marinello left town just after the murder.

Police said a search of the FEMA trailer he was living in after Hurricane Katrina turned up a checklist of how to commit and cover up the crime.

Trial witnesses included a man who testified he sold the disguise to Marinello and a gun shop employee who testified Marinello brought him a gun matching the murder weapon and asked him to test fire it to determine if it was functional before the murder.

Marinello worked as a sportscaster at WDSU and host at KOOL 95.7 and WWL Radio.

He also worked for years at the Fair Grounds Race Course.
