Another giant in the retail business is going after the delivery services with a service of their own, beginning in the fall. Walmart is rolling out its unlimited grocery delivery to over 16 hundred stores nationwide for a 98 dollar annual fee. The service known as Delivery Unlimited allows customers to avoid the per order fee and instead pay a flat charge of $12.95 monthly or the annual fee.
Grocery store and retail analyst Wade Ragas says it certainly makes sense as Walmart goes directly after the competition.
"It is them going directly against the subscription services but most importantly, it's them going directly against Amazon," Ragas said.
Ragas says there may also be sales associated with various merchandise to help people be further rewarded.
"I think it's Walmart trying to reassert its dominance in fighting off competitors," he added.
Ragas says this still won't stop customers from shopping inside Walmart.
"Walmart, when you drive, their parking lots today are just as packed as they were 3 or 4 years ago, so the biggest threat are to other merchants, not so much to Walmart," Ragas said.
