As a tropical wave moves into the Gulf of Mexico, headed west with a 40 percent chance of tropical cyclone development, the seventh tropical cyclone has formed in the central Atlantic Ocean, headed towards the Caribbean.
Tropical Depression Seven is forecast to be Tropical Storm Gonzalo by early tomorrow morning. It is moving west-northwest near eight miles per hour and may cross the Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles on Saturday.
Closer to us, a tropical wave is making a lot of rain over Cuba, the Bahamas, and southern Florida, and it is headed west-northwest into the Gulf of Mexico. It is likely to bring rainier conditions to the northern Gulf Coast by the end of the week, but it is possible it could develop. The National Hurricane center gives it a medium chance of 40 percent to become a cyclone over the next five days. A U.S. Air Force hurricane hunter is scheduled to investigate the system tomorrow, if necessary.
