A woman was injured but escaped with her life when her SUV was struck by an Amtrak passenger train at a crossing in Metairie.
The accident happened just before 3 p.m. on Central Avenue near Heaslip Avenue.
According to The Times-Picayune | The New Orleans Advocate, the 49-year-old woman reportedly drove around crossing gates and was hit by the speeding train.
The woman is currently hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
Captain Jason Rivarde with Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says they do plan on citing the woman for failing to yield.
