When two local area shrimpers went at it over a prime harvesting ground in the Rigolets, the dustup got so out of hand the marine unit of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office had to respond.
According to a press release, 35-year-old shrimp boat captain Casey Russell became insensed when he spotted a rival shrimper harvesting an area near Geoghegan Canal. Russell normally harvests in that area and considers it his spot.
Russell allegedly dropped anchor, then dragged the anchor around the rival's boat, hooking his shrimp net and other lines. According to report he then dragged the boat away, doing extensive damage and causing the rival's craft to begin taking on water.
St. Tammany Sheriffs arrived and arrested Russell, booking him on criminal damage to private property. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries also cited Russell for interfering with a commercial fisherman.
