WWL Radio color analyst Duece McAllister said there was a lot to like in the Saints’ 33-27 win against the Seattle Seahawks. Particularly, from the special teams unit.
McAllister wasn’t just talking about Thomas Morsted who pinned the Seahawks deep in their own territory with booming punts or rookie Deonte Harris who returned a punt for a touchdown in the win. He was also impressed with the kick coverage team as well.
“I thought JT Gray, Justin Hardee and Dwayne Washington …I thought those guys were really, really good in the coverage scheme,” McAllister said. “That’s always going to be a plus for you.”
The Saints all-time leading rusher wants to see New Orleans cut back on the penalties.
The Saints were penalized 11 times in Sunday’s win.
“That can’t continue to happen to you,” he said. “Then the other part of it is, obviously, some of the holding mistakes. They’re negating big plays with some of those holding penalties and I know across the league that’s been a point of emphasis as far as the referees are concerned. And holding was down across the league. But when you look at this Saints team, that can’t be who they are as far a team and right now that’s hurting them in certain situations.”
