The wait is over.
LSU football is back, preparing for their Week 1 matchup against Georgia Southern at home this Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
Coach Ed Orgeron and the Tigers are ready and have put in some good weeks of work leading up to the game.
“Georgia Southern is a good football team,” Orgeron said. “We are going to have to tackle really well against these guys.”
Orgeron described Georgia Southern as a fast team and said that LSU can’t take that for granted particularly when defending against the Eagles’ triple-option offense.
“We have to be disciplined on defense, this quarterback (Shai Werts) can make you miss and pitch the ball at any time,” Orgeron said.
The Tigers are favored in 11 of 12 games this season and come into this contest ranked No. 6 in the AP poll.
Orgeron pointed out his team is not focused on pre-season rankings.
“Block out the noise, none of those rankings matter until the end of the season,” he said. “We haven’t talked about the rankings as a team.”
The Tigers will feature a new look on offense this season with Joe Brady hired from the Saints to lead their passing game attack. Brady is the passing game coordinator, with Steve Ensminger calling the offensive plays.
“There will be times we will go fast, and we can slow it down if we need to,” Orgeron said jokingly. “We want to go fast. I told them to get in the huddle the other day and they acted like they didn’t know what I was talking about.”
