Murrill: 'They burned their house down'

Murrill: 'They burned their house down'
Louisiana Attorney General's Office

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill is not backing down from her comments about removing New Orleans elected leaders from office.

The attorney general appeared on WWL's Newell Normand to defend her comments, made after a majority of the city council voted to appoint an interim clerk of court and call for a special election for clerk in November.

City leaders argue that when the Louisiana legislature combined the offices of clerk of criminal district court and civil court, it in essence created a new position that must be voted on.

"New Orleans City Leaders thought there wouldn't be any consequences for their political theater," Murrill told Normand. "They (New Orleans leadership) burned their house down, and they're calling me the arsonist."
