For the first time this season, the Pelicans tasted victory in the Smoothie King Center last night in a game that offered a glimpse at what this team can be when all the new pieces start to gel.
The Pels looked dominant against the visiting Denver Nuggets, a team expected to make a deep postseason run this year.
Jahlil Okafor led the way as he started in place of the injured Derrick Favors. Okafor finished with 26 points.
The contest also featured the return to the lineup of Jrue Holiday, who made his presence felt right from the jump with a game-opening three. Holiday had missed two games with a knee sprain but looked spry as he dropped 19 points on the Nuggets.
Brandon Ingram, who had been regularly leading the Pelicans in scoring, added 25 on the night.
In the end, it was a 122-107 victory for a Pelicans team that desperately needed to stop digging themselves an early season hole. They now sit at 1-4 and get tonight off before a Saturday night showdown with the equally 1-4 Thunder in Oklahoma City.
