Back up the Brinks truck! Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas’ hold-out has ended with the 26 year old getting a five-year, $100 million extension. It makes Thomas the first receiver in NFL history to get a contract averaging at least $20 million per year, as well as the first offensive player that is not a quarterback to ink a deal with a total value of at least $100 million.
Can’t Guard Mike is also getting big money up front as he is receiving $61 million in guaranteed money. Thomas has put up the numbers to back up the big bucks amassing 321 catches for 3,787 yards and 23 touchdowns over his first three seasons. Those reliable hands hauled in an outstanding 85% of the passes thrown his way last season, which was by far the best among WRs.
"I think it's great that the deal is finished,"said the voice of the Saints Zach Strief. "My understanding, talking to both sides, is that it was amicable the whole way. It was handled the right way; I think everybody knew what the stakes were. Ultimately, I think it is a good deal for both sides."
