In the blink of an eye, September is almost over and we are already heading into week 4 in the NFL. Drew Brees’ thumb injury is a temporary setback, as the team remains full steam ahead with Teddy Bridgewater taking over the starting role under center until Brees returns. Teddy’s outing in Seattle was a success as he went 19 of 27 passing for 177 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs and 0 sacks. Coach Sean Payton was asked if they have had to tweak much to the playbook in order to better suit Bridgewater.

“There’s a handful of things we think he does particularly well. So, you might feature or work a little bit more specifically on,” explained Payton. “There’s a general philosophy offensively, and then there are some things that we think he does really well. And so, it’s trying to put those in a plan that fits the opponent you’re playing.”
That opponent is the 3-0 Dallas Cowboys this week in the Mercedes Benz Superdome. Last season, Dem Boys snapped the Black & Gold’s 10 game win streak on a Thursday night game in week 13. This season, the Saints aim for a little payback in prime time on Sunday night football.
The Cowboys get their first real test as they’ve beaten the Giants, the Redskins and the Dolphins. Those team’s combined record is 1-8. Dallas’ offensive line gets talked about a lot as they are considered one of the best units in the NFL. QB Dak Prescott has been sacked just twice and has had tons of time to compete 75% of his passes. Their defense is pretty scary though as they are stacked from front to back.
“They are talented and well coached, and they’re not just talented at one position group,” said Payton about a Cowboys D that is allowing 15 points a game; 4th best in the NFL. “Their front is exceptional. Lawrence has been tremendous pressure player, active player. Their linebackers are deep, they can run. They are confident in the secondary. Defensively, they have done a great job.”
