Saints defensive end Marcus Davenport’s first 2 seasons in the NFL have ended on injured reserve. After missing the last few practices, concerns about his health came up after the team signed two DEs and a linebacker.

But, head coach Sean Payton says they are just evaluating some more talent before the 53-roster is set.

“We have got a little bit of time here before our cutdowns to look at some other players. That was really the main goal, so we'll see how it unfolds,” explained Payton. “A few of these guys we have seen before, whether in a practice environment with the Chargers or on film. So, it is really more of a chance to look at our depth and then look at potential players, that if they are not active roster players, maybe they are practice squad candidates.”

Besides Davenport missing multiples practices, linebacker Jalen Dalton tore his triceps and is out for the season.

Also of note, RB Alvin Kamara and S Malcolm Jenkins have also been absent the past few sessions for unknowns reasons. The team is not practicing Sunday, but get back to work on Monday with just 2 weeks left until the season opener in the Mercedes Benz Superdome against the Tampa bay Buccaneers.
