Tight end Jimmy Graham chose to sign with the Packers over the Saints in free agency at the start of this past season and he may find himself on the open market again soon. Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette thinks Graham could get cut after signing a 3 year, 30 million dollar deal since he did not live up to expectations.
Doughery wrote in a Packers chat room, “I don't know if they'll ask Graham to take a pay cut, or whether he would, but how can they justify paying him $9M in salary and bonuses next season? He's just not dynamic enough. I'd move on and start over at that position if I were them.”
Graham is due a $5.3 million roster bonus on March 15, so it’s possible Packers opt to let the 32 year old go. If that happens, maybe a Saints reunion could happen.
Tight end is a position the Black & Gold will be looking at this offseason, especially after the news that Benjamin Watson is retiring. In 2018, Graham hauled in 55 receptions for 636 yards and two touchdowns and did not look like the threat he once was. But, he had the greatest success of his career in New Orleans with QB Drew Brees. Maybe Graham coming back to where it all started could reignite his game, and at a discounted price for the Saints.
Graham was a 3rd round pick of the Saints back in 2010. He totaled 386 catches for 7,436 yards and 51 TDs during his 5 year stint in New Orleans.
