A legend in the music industry will grace the stage in Jefferson Parish as one of the Family Gras headliners, and she stopped by WWL Radio to preview the performance on the Scoot Show.

Marie Osmond’s career in music and entertainment is entering its sixth decade at this point, but she said she’s still finding ways to challenge herself. To that end, she released a new album last year – Unexpected – that showcased her newly-honed operatic chops.

“Honestly, it was really kind of an album that I wanted to do to stretch myself. It took about 20 years for me to learn how to sing that way privately,” she said, admitting she was surprised by the reaction. “I debuted one of my songs on Oprah. The response was crazy.”

Osmond said that since making the stylistic change, she gets asked about the material she’ll be performing on any given night.

“One of the big questions is, ‘Are you gonna sing any of your other hits like my country stuff?’… Of course I am. Just because it’s an orchestra doesn’t mean you can’t do various styles of music. What it means is everything is live.”

So expect a cross-section that runs the gamut from classical to country music when Osmond takes the stage as Night One Family Gras headliner this Friday, February 18.
