A tale of 2 point spreads

It's rivalry weekend for football fans in the New Orleans area -- LSU is in Tuscaloosa to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide while the Saints host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. LSU is a massive underdog while the Saints are favored by nearly a touchdown.

LSU has certainly seen better days but Alabama is favored by 28.5 points. Is that tempting some people to put their money on the Fighting Tigers, hoping they will beat that massive point spread? Not really, says Scott Cooley with MaximBet.

"About 78 percent of the money wagered is on Alabama right now," said Cooley. "This spread actually opened at 24 and a half and it's been bet up to 28 and a half."

But the Saints, who are favored by 6.5, may be getting too much. Cooley says some people are taking the Falcons and expecting them to keep the game narrower than that.

"There's a little bit more wiseguy money on the Falcons," he said of the NFC South division rivalry. "Generally see these types of games play out as back and forth, kind of hard-hitting slobberknockers that really come down to a field goal or two."

He says the money has been falling more or less even on either team in that one.
