A devastating blow to an LSU baseball team already teetering... Junior right fielder Jake Brown is done for the season with a broken hamate bone.
LSU’s offense is already struggling, and now they will play the rest of the season without one of its best players.
The Sulphur native leads the Tigers with 16 home runs and 49 RBI on the year and he’s ninth in the SEC in runs scored with 43. And he has started every game in right field this season.
Brown’s injury will likely open the door for freshman William Patrick to get more playing time. Coach Jay Johnson has been looking for ways to play Patrick more. He likes his speed and athleticism.
Patrick is from St. Frederick’s High School in Monroe and was ranked by Perfect Game as the 2nd best high school player in Louisiana last spring. He hit .472 with five homers, 13 doubles and 13 RBI and 27 stolen bases as a senior at St. Frederick’s.
Daniel Harden, from Catholic High in Baton Rouge, who could see more playing time.
LSU has lost six straight SEC games. The Tigers are 6-12 in league play, and they are not even on the bubble to make the NCAA Tournament.
The injury news does not stop with Brown. Starting pitcher Cooper Moore is also out for the season with a stress fracture in his throwing elbow.
Moore is 3-3 with a 3.38 ERA, and Johnson says Moore is expected to return to LSU next year and pitch for the Tigers.
