LSU Coach Brian Kelly confirmed on Wednesday that 6-6, 350-pound defensive tackle Sydir Mitchell is no longer with the Tigers. Mitchell did not play in the first two games and apparently, he also didn’t follow team rules.
“We have standards that need to be met, and those standards weren’t met,” Kelly said.
Mitchell transferred to LSU from Texas during the offseason, where he would be coached again by defensive line coach Bo Davis. Davis was at Texas, when Mitchell first arrived on the UT campus.
Davis left for LSU in 2024 and then after the season he left LSU to be the Saints defensive line coach.
LSU still has good depth at defensive tackle even with Mitchell’s departure, with Ahmad Breaux, Dominick McKinley, Bernard Gooden, Jacobian Guillory and freshman Walter Mathis Jr.
On the other side of the line, Kelly said starting center Braelin Moore is progressing towards playing this Saturday against the Gators.
“I think we have him listed as probable, but he did practice yesterday, and we expect him to practice today,” Kelly said.
Moore suffered an ankle sprain on the first play from scrimmage against Louisiana Tech.
The Tigers will play Florida at 6:30 on Saturday Night.
