A two-game losing streak is rare for the LSU football program. The Tigers have an opportunity to get back in the win column by beating a Florida team that might not win enough games to play in a bowl game.
For LSU to win in the Swamp, they must stay away from turnovers. Tigers quarterback Garrett Nussmeier has turned it over six times over the last six quarters.
But LSU Coach Brian Kelly says he likes how Nussmeier has been locked in this week.
“My experience tells me that when a quarterback is this locked in, you might want to watch the game,” Kelly said.
Nussmeier and the LSU offense will face a Florida defense that ranks 100th in the country in total defense.
Florida is coming off a 49-17 loss to Texas, but the Gators offense will likely benefit from the return of quarterback DJ Lagway. The freshman from Texas has a big arm and his hamstring is apparently healthy enough to play against the Tigers.
He was carted off the field on November 2nd in a loss to Georgia. I imagine his ability to run will still be limited.
The Tigers also have a slim chance of reaching the SEC Championship game, despite two league losses. LSU will have to win its final three games and hope other contests go their way.
But Kelly said on Thursday night the main priority for LSU is cleaning up the mistakes that has led to this mini-losing streak, but they also understand there’s still a chance to play in Atlanta in the SEC title game.
“And then by the way, if you keep playing, and play better and play more consistent the door is still open for you, it still has not closed,” Kelly said.
