Here we are…headed into week three of the SEC schedule. The power rankings haven’t changed all that much from week to week. Let’s get to it!
1. ALABAMA: Like it or not, this is the best team in the conference. Mac Jones looks for real at QB. The Crimson Tide throttled No. 21 Texas A&M 52-24 in Week 2. Mac Jones went nuts on the A&M defense, tossing 4 TD’s with 435 passing yards in the win. Alabama finished the game with 544 yards of total offense. The defense isn’t what we’re used to seeing, and that might be the undoing of the Tide down the road. Last week: 1
2. FLORIDA: The Gators whipped up on South Carolina 38-24. QB Kyle Trask continued his impressive season with 4 touchdowns through the air in the win over the Gamecocks. Florida is a team that Alabama wants no part of. Watch out for the Gators. Last week: 2
3. GEORGIA: The Bulldogs hammered Auburn 27-6. Georgia limited Auburn to just 216 total yards! That’s complete domination! UGA is starting to figure things out on offense. The defense is legit! The Bulldogs are going to improve by leaps and bounds. The SEC East has two beast teams in Georgia and Florida. Last week: 3
4. LSU: Ok, the Tigers got their mojo back to a degree in the win over Vanderbilt. We expected LSU to beat the Commodores. I hate the argument, “It’s Vanderbilt, so you can’t get too excited.” Bullsh@#. The Tigers play in the SEC. The defense looked better, not great, but better. QB Myles Brennan threw for 337 yards and 4 touchdowns. Brennan is off to the best start in the history of signal callers at LSU. Last week: 7
5. TENNESSEE: What? The Vols this high? This is the best team Tennessee has had in over a decade. Rocky Top is baaack? No, but they’re on their way. The Volunteers beat Missouri and South Carolina. Weak opponents, sure, but again, this is the SEC. Tennessee is on the road against Georgia. We’ll get a good idea of just how good the Vols really are. Last week: 8
6. TEXAS A&M: The Aggies were crushed by Alabama. Some in college station are wondering why A&M gave all that money to Coach Jimbo Fisher. Give him more time, Fisher will get the Aggies going. It doesn’t get easier this week as they have No. 4 Florida coming to Texas. Last week: 5
7. MISSISSIPPI STATE: Um, yeah…maybe coach Mike Leach was thinking about alien abductions Saturday afternoon in Starkville. MSU lost to a clearly inferior Arkansas team that had previously lost 10 straight SEC games. Look closely at the stat line. State gave the Hogs 4 turnovers. That’s exactly the way you lose to Arkansas. Last week: 6
8. AUBURN: Oh man, that was ugly last week against Georgia. Auburn is a team that’s hard to figure out. They don’t really have an identity offensively or defensively. Last week: 4
9. KENTUCKY: Ole Miss knocked off UK in overtime 42-41. I tried to tell you, basketball rules in Kentucky. The Wildcats are 0-2 with Mississippi State coming to town. Last week: 9
10. OLE MISS: Nice win over Kentucky! Get used to it Mississippi fans; high scoring affairs will be your new normal with Kiffin in charge. Last week: 10
11. ARKANSAS: Hey, give them credit. They beat Mississippi State. Something LSU didn’t do. The Razorbacks are harmless. We should root for them. Last week: 12
12. SOUTH CAROLINA: 0-2 and Coach Will Muschamp is in trouble. I predict Muschamp won’t make it to week five’s matchup with LSU. Last week: 11
13. MISSOURI: Show me something! Anything! Last week: 13
14. VANDERBILT: They got cool helmets! So there’s that! Last week: 14
