LSU fans will never forget the 2023 offense. It led the nation in scoring offense and total yards, plus several other statistical categories.

The Tigers offense last year featured three first round picks, Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. It was so much fun to watch!

LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier enjoyed being a part of it too, but he’s now ready to lead the next great LSU offense.

“Now it’s about what we do, it doesn’t matter that we won ten games in back-to-back years, now it’s about us and who we want to be and the level and standard we want to hold ourselves too,” said Nussmeier.

It will be difficult to replace the dynamic duo at wide receiver in Nabers and Thomas.

At spring practice on Wednesday, the first unit wide receivers were Kyren Lacy, Chris Hilton and Kyle Parker.

Parker is a speedy receiver from Allen, Texas. He’s 5-11, 195 pounds and appeared in four games last season, but did not catch a pass.

A big part of the 2023 offense was Daniels’ ability to make big plays on the ground, He rushed for more than 1,000 yards and his 200-yard plus rushing performance against Florida put him in the lead in the Heisman Race.

Nussmeier knows he can’t duplicate Daniels’ ability to run past defenders, but he will not be afraid to show off his wheels.

“Everybody knows that’s not in my play style to run 50-percent of the time, but I think it’s important to run 15-percent of the time, when things are not good, you’ll have to move the chains on third down with your feet,” said Nussmeier.

Despite all of that great talent on offense last season, the Tigers won ten games. Nussmeier says the 2024 Tigers will not be satisfied with a third consecutive ten-win season.

“Ten wins is not enough anymore, I’m not going to say we have to win a national championship, that’s not how we think, but it’s about doing the little things, and the little things right and that’s what leads to championship culture,” said Nussmeier.

Nussmeier and the Tigers still have a couple more weeks in the spring to build that championship culture as the Spring Game is not until April 13th.
