Gov. Edwards 'extremely troubled' by USA TODAY article

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards said Thursday he was "extremely troubled"
by an article in USA TODAY that alleged LSU officials failed to follow federal law when dealing with allegations of sexual misconduct and violence from students and student-athletes.

"We have to take this very seriously and we can not tolerate any instances where someone might willfully turn the blind eye to credible allegations of this type of violence and abuse," Edwards said. "and if that happened we need to know about it.

"And so there needs to be a prompt a thorough and transparent investigation so that we can really Who knew what? When did they know it? Was it credible? And what did they do about it?

"Because quite frankly there's no way that you can get to the bottom of that by reading that article but what that article can do is excite you and make sure that you do the investigation and that's what I'm calling upon LSU to do."

The article which focuses on school’s handling of allegations regarding former LSU running back Derrius Guice and former wide receiver Drake Davis as well as other LSU students who did not play sports.
